Principal Investigator
Paul is the Albert Resnick, M.D. Associate Professor at the Rockefeller University. Paul has headed the Laboratory of Molecular Metabolism since 2015. He is also Senior Attending Physician at The Rockefeller University Hospital and Assistant Attending Physician at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Paul completed postdoctoral training at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, a Fellowship in Cardiovascular Medicine at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and a residency in internal medicine at Columbia University Medical Center. Prior to that, Paul was a student in the Tri-Institutional M.D./Ph.D. program here at Rockefeller, where he completed Ph.D. research in Jeff Friedman’s lab. Paul received his A.B. in Biology from Harvard College.
Research
Paul’s research focuses on understanding the molecular links between obesity and associated diseases, with a focus on the biology of white and brown adipose tissues in type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and cancer. His research program is anchored in human biology and employs unique patient cohorts and novel imaging and biochemical methods in cellular and animal models, with the goal of using insights from adipose tissue biology to improve human health.
