New study published in Nature

A new study from the Cohen Lab, led by Nicolás Gómez-Banoy, M.D., was published in Nature. The work uses artificial intelligence and large-scale clinical data to characterize human brown adipose tissue activity in more than 100,000 patients, showing that higher brown fat activity is associated with lower odds of cardiometabolic disease and a healthier metabolic profile. The study also identifies angiotensin receptor blocker use as positively associated with brown fat and demonstrates that losartan can directly increase brown adipocyte activity and whole-body energy expenditure. These findings provide new insight into the clinical relevance of human brown fat and highlight its potential as a therapeutic target in metabolic disease. Congratulations, Nico and collaborators!
